Better Homes and Gardens Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar |
3/4 cup butter (or 1/2 cup butter and 1/4 cup shortening) |
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz.) |
1 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450°. 2. In a large bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar. 3. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 4. Stir in cheese. 5. Make a well in the center of flour mixture. 6. Add milk all at once. 7. Using a fork, stir just until mixture is moistened. 8. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. 9. Knead dough by folding and gently pressing it just until it holds together. 10. Pat or lightly roll until 3/4-inch thick. 11. Cut with a floured 2 1/2 inch round cutter, dipping cutter into flour between cuts; reroll scraps as necessary. 12. Place dough circles 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. 13. Bake for 10-14 minutes or until golden. 14. Remove biscuits from baking sheet; serve warm. |
