Total comfort food. Smoked fish in a white sauce, topped with mashed potatoes. Ingredients:
4 potatoes |
2 tablespoons butter |
3 tablespoons flour |
350 ml milk |
3 hard-boiled eggs |
450 g canned smoked fish fillet |
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional) |
Directions:
1. Peel and boil the potatoes. When cooked, mash with 1 tbsp butter and 50 mls milk. Season to taste. 2. Meanwhile, melt 1 tbsp butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour. Cook for about 1 minute, until golden. 3. Slowly add the milk to the roux (the flour and butter), whisking it smooth as you go. 4. Cook sauce until thick, stirring very frequently. Smooth out any lumps as they form, with the whisk or the back of a spoon. 5. Mix smoked fish into the white sauce. Quarter the boiled eggs and mix them inches If you are using parsley, chop finely and mix it inches. 6. Pour the fish mixture into a casserole dish, top with the mashed potato. 7. Bake at 180 degrees celcius for 25 minutes or until mashed potato is golden brown. |
