My family loves cheese straws! They're good with soups and stews and salads - or simply by themselves as an appetizer. This one is a little different from the usual cheddar variety. Ingredients:
1/2 lb feta cheese |
2 c. flour |
1/2 lb unsalted butter, softened |
1 egg white, beaten |
caraway seeds |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400. 2. In large bowl, mix cheese, flour and butter; knead for 10-12 minutes or until beautifully silken. Flour countertop and roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut strips 4 x 1/2 wide. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with caraway seeds. 3. Bake 7-8 minutes; reduce heat to 350 and continue baking about 10 minutes more or until lightly browned. |
