I came up with this years ago combining various 7 layer salad recipes that I liked. It makes a lot. It goes great for a pot luck dinner or a casual holiday buffet. Ingredients:
8 ounces of lettuce, salad greens, etc |
8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced |
1 pound frozen baby peas, defrosted |
1 red onion chopped |
2 cans of sliced water chestnuts, drained |
1 large red bell pepper, chopped |
3-4 stalks of celery, sliced |
8-16 ounces bacon, fried and crumbled |
3-4 hard boiled eggs, chopped |
8 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese |
dressing |
1 cup mayo |
1 cup sour cream |
1 teaspoon dried basil |
1/2 t garlic powder |
2 tablespoons vinegar |
1 tablespoon sugar |
salt and pepper, to taste |
combine, set aside |
Directions:
1. Layer ingredients in order given, except pour dressing over last layer before adding cheese. 2. Cover, let sit in the refrigerator at least 8 hours before serving. |
