Got this years ago in a magazine and I tweak it for stuffed shells also. If you can't find Italian tomato sauce, then use regular and season it with Italian seasonings and garlic! Ingredients:
1 lb ground sausage |
2 (15 ounce) cans italian tomato sauce |
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste |
1/4 cup water |
1 (15 ounce) carton ricotta cheese |
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese |
1 egg |
1 teaspoon parsley flakes |
12 manicotti, cooked |
1 cup grated parmesan cheese |
Directions:
1. Brown sausage in large saucepan, drain. 2. Take half of sausage, put in large bowl and put aside. 3. Stir tomato sauce, paste, and water into sausage in pan. 4. Simmer 15 minute. 5. Meanwhile, to the sausage in bowl, add ricotta, 2 cups mozzarella, egg and parsley. 6. Pour 1/3 sauce mixture into 13x9-inch baking pan. 7. Stuff manicotti with ricotta mixture and place on top of sauce in baking pan. 8. Pour remaining sauce over stuffed manicotti, top with remaining mozzarella and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. 9. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until hot all through. |
