This recipe came from my mom, and has been modified a bit by me. You could also substitute hamburger for the sirloin if you wanted. Stroganoff is just one of those comfort foods you can't get enough of. Ingredients:
1 medium onion, diced |
1 tablespoon olive oil |
1 lb sirloin steak |
1/2 lb sliced mushrooms |
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup |
1 teaspoon paprika |
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard |
2 tablespoons dry sherry or 2 tablespoons cognac |
salt and pepper |
1/2 cup light sour cream |
Directions:
1. Slice the sirloin into 1/4 inch by 2 inch slices, set aside. 2. Sauté onion and mushrooms in olive oil until softened. 3. Add the sirloin, cover and simmer on medium low for 30 minutes. 4. Drain 1/2 of the juice from the pan. 5. Add the sherry, cream of mushroom soup, paprika, dry mustard, salt and pepper. 6. Cover and simmer on low for 10 minutes. 7. Add the sour cream to the mixture and heat through. 8. Serve over egg noodles or rice. |
