Can't remember where I got this recipe. The secret is the brown sugar. Enjoy. Ingredients:
2 cups cornmeal |
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon sugar |
2 teaspoons brown sugar |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 egg, well beaten |
1 cup buttermilk |
1/3 cup finely chopped onion (optional) |
1/4 cup water |
cooking oil |
Directions:
1. Combine corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt. 2. Combine egg, buttermilk, onion and water. C. 3. ombine mixtures and stir until just moistened. 4. In a skillet or Fry Daddy pour in oil until a depth of 3 inches or to markings on Fry Daddy . Heat oil to 375‘F. 5. Drop batter by tablespoons into hot oil. Fry until golden brown. 6. Quantity varies according to size. |
