I can't believe it's not Fried Chicken. A couple years ago when PETA demo this at the Stockley Gardens Art Show. That sample really made an impression on me. Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. Great game time snack.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon (fresh ground pepper)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
2 cups unbleached white flour
4 tablespoon nutritional yeast
3 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 pound faux chicken (i use worthington chic-ketts)
vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
1. Mix together the salt, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder flour and nutritional yeast in a bowl.
2. In a separate bowl dilute mustard with 1/2 cup water
3. Add 1/3 cup of the flour mixture to the diluted mustard and whisk together.
4. Add baking powder to the dry flour mixture and combine
5. Dip chunks of the mock chicken into the mustard batter, then drop each chunk into the flour to coat with desired amount of flour mixture. Shake off excess flour.
6. Preheat vegetable oil in a large heavy skillet or deep fryer to 350 degrees.
7. Fry chunks in hot oil until crispy and golden brown turning as needed.
8. Remove from oil drain on paper towels
9. Serve with favorite dipping sauce or hot sauce
