This is my version of Kansas City Style Barbeque Sauce - I spent 2 years developing this recipe to use in competition. It's pretty spicy on it's own, but paired up with pork or chicken (it really doesn't work with brisket), it's great - it's a blend of sweet and spicy, with a nice consistancy. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups catsup |
1 cup cider vinegar |
1 tablespoon black pepper |
1/2 cup dark brown sugar |
1 tablespoon salt |
1 tablespoon chili powder |
1/2 teaspoon celery seed |
1 teaspoon onion powder |
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper |
1/2 teaspoon paprika |
3 tablespoons bourbon |
2 tablespoons lemon juice |
1/2 teaspoon tabasco sauce |
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a heavy bottomed pot. 2. Bring to a low boil (on medium low) and then let the sauce cook for about 10 minutes. 3. Turn off the heat and serve or chill. 4. This sauce keeps about a year refrigerated. |
