This is from a WWII cookbook, where they used alot of cereal in their cooking because it was cheap. This recipe is fantastic and reminds me of my mothers meatloaf. Ingredients:
4 cups post grape-nuts cereal (flakes) |
2 lbs ground beef |
1 egg |
2 teaspoons salt |
3/4 cup chopped celery |
1 tablespoon minced onion |
1/2 teaspoon sage |
1/4 cup chopped celery leaves |
1 tablespoon chopped parsley |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
1/4 cup ketchup |
1 cup milk or 1 cup stock |
Directions:
1. Crush cereal flakes slightly. Combine remaining ingredients in order given; mix well. Add flakes. Pack into greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Bake in moderate over (375°F.) 1 hour and 15 minutes. |
