Found this recipe in the food section of a local paper. It is SO good. Better than store-bought. Ingredients:
1 tablespoon yeast |
1 cup warm water |
2 teaspoons sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup vegetable oil |
3 cups flour (can use part whole wheat) |
1/4 cup cornmeal (only a small amount required) |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in water. 2. Mix sugar, salt and oil and add to yeast misture. 3. Beat in one-half of the flour. 4. Add balance of flour to make a SOFT dough. 5. Knead well (8-10 mins). 6. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick on floured board. 7. Cut into 3 1/2 inch circles. 8. Sprinkle a cookie sheet with a small amount of cornmeal. 9. Place circles on sheet, and then sprinkle tops with a bit of cornmeal. 10. Cover and let rise until double. 11. Preheat griddle or electric frying pan to 375°F Place circles in the pan. 12. Cook 7 minutes per side. |
