HoneeBee says it's similar to a fruitcake . Ingredients:
2 pounds dates, pitted and chopped |
2 pounds english walnuts, coarsely chopped |
1 cup white sugar |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour |
4 large egg yolks |
4 large egg whites |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. (150 degrees C). 2. Grease and flour a 10 tube pan. 3. In a large bowl combine dates, walnuts, sugar, baking powder and flour. 4. Stir in egg yolks. 5. In a large glass or metal bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. 6. Fold the whites into the fruit/nut mixture until no streaks remain. 7. Spoon into prepared pan. 8. Bake for 90 minutes. 9. Remove from oven. 10. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. 11. Turn out onto wire rack to cool completely. |
