A trifle of this and a trifle of that. Our family understanding of how trifle evolved. Known as a poor man's dessert - a trifle was a combination of desserts from the week - maybe one day you had custard - the next was cake. Read more . Tossed together and served in a crystal bowl. This is our version. Ingredients:
sunbeam pound cake - see recipe on this site - best if dried out a day or so. |
bird's custard mix |
fruit of choice |
1 or 2 cartons of heavy whipping cream for whipped topping |
Directions:
1. Use a big bowl for this! :) 2. Break pound cake down into bite sized pieces. 3. Prepare Bird's custard according to package instructions. 4. Add hot custard to pound cake bits. 5. Add fruit of choice - we love to use canned pineapple tidbits. Strawberries are great too! 6. Fold all ingredients together gently. 7. Whipped Topping 8. Using a mixer - beat heavy whipping cream to stiff peaks. 9. We prefer to leave the cream unsweetened. It enhances the flavor of the trifle. 10. This is just our version of a great dessert! Have fun with it! |
