I was going through some old recipes and found this one I haven't made in years. The serving size is a guess as it all depends on how thick you slice it. It is great toasted with just butter on it! It makes two loaves.
Ingredients:
2 pkgs yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 cups milk, scalded and cooled
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon warm water
1 cup raisins (optional)
5 cups flour
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water; allow it to sit for 10 minutes
2. Add sugar, salt, milk, raisins (if your using them) and 2 1/2 cups of flour.
3. Beat until well blended
4. Add remaining flour, mix well, cover and let rise about 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in bulk.
5. Dissolve baking soda in 1 tablespoon warm water; stir down dough and blend in soda water
6. Divide dough into two loaves and place in well greased loaf pans.
7. Cover and let rise until doubled, about an hour.
8. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
9. Remove from pans to cool
