You'll want to keep this recipe on-hand for homemade Enchilada Sauce any time a recipe calls for it. It takes a dish from so-so to over-the-top! Ingredients:
1/4 cup all-purpose flour |
1/4 cup chili powder |
6 tablespoons vegetable oil |
1 cup minced onion |
4 garlic cloves, minced |
2 (8-oz.) cans tomato sauce |
2 teaspoons ground cumin |
1 1/4 teaspoons salt |
1 teaspoon dried oregano |
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper |
Directions:
1. Cook first 2 ingredients in hot oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring often, 2 minutes. Stir in onion; cook, stirring often, 3 minutes or until tender. Add garlic; cook, stirring often, 1 minute. Stir in remaining ingredients and 3 cups water. Cook, stirring often, 15 minutes or until thickened. |
