This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Crawford Estate in Quinlan, Texas in 1982. Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups brown sugar |
1/2 cup lard |
1/2 cup grated chocolate |
1/2 cup boiling water |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup sour milk |
1 3/4 cups flour |
1/2 cup cornstarch |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
Directions:
1. Mix together brown sugar and lard. 2. Dissolve chocolate in the boiling water then add to brown sugar mixture. 3. Dissolve baking soda in the sour milk then add to mixture. 4. Sift together the dry ingredients then add to mixture and bake 35 minutes at 350. |
