old family recipe from 1850 Ingredients:
2/3 cup crisco |
1 pint water (2 cups) |
3 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
2 cups sugar |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 cups raisins |
1 cup pecans |
3 1/2-4 cups flour |
1 cup candied cherry |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2. Grease & flour a 9x13-inch baking dish. 3. Mix Crisco, water, raisins, and spices. Bring to a boil for ten minute then let cool. Next dissolve 1 teaspoon soda in 1/2 cup boiling water and add to mixture. Add enough flour to make a stiff batter (3 1/2 - 4 cups). Put in the glass baking dish. 4. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Test in middle. |
