My Grandma used to make us this for easter every year. I tried to make a healthy version.
Ingredients:
7 slices whole grain white bread
3/4 pound turkey sausage
16 oz shredded cheddar cheese
6 eggs
1 teaspoon pepper
2 cups fat free milk
Directions:
1. Spray the bottom of the pan with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Cut off curst of bread and cut bread in half. Arrange bread slices in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
3. Brown sausage, using spatula to break up. Drain and pat with paper towels. Sprinkle sausage over bread slices. Sprinkle cheese over sausage.
4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, pepper (other seasoning you want to add), and the milk until well blened.
5. Pour egg mixture over bread, sausage and cheese.
6. Cover pan with foil and refrigerate overnight.
7. Remove from refrigerator and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°. Remove foil from pan. Bake casserole for 45 minutes or until casserole is bubbly and lightly browned on top. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean. Let stand for 15 to 20 minutes after baking.
