Another one pulled from G-ma Roberts file. I type her recipes just as she wrote them. This is a great side dish when I'm making ribs, I slow bake the onions with the ribs (after the ribs have been started in the smoker) That way they both come out of the oven about the same time. Ingredients:
12 medium sized onions, i prefer vidalia |
1/2 stick of butter |
2 tablespoons of brown sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt |
Directions:
1. Peel onions, trimming off both ends sparingly. 2. Place in a 13x9x2 pan. This will be a snug fit. 3. Top each onion with a bit of butter. 4. Mix sugar and salt together. 5. Sprinkle all around the onions. 6. Cover tightly with tin foil. 7. DO NOT ADD WATER 8. Bake in a 200 degree oven for about 2 hours. 9. Onions wil be golden brown and they keep their shape. |
