We used to be able to buy this pre-made when I was a kid. Since you can't any more I figured out how to make it.Very addictive! The cream cheese layer keeps it from going soggy and makes it what is that flavour? kind of yum Ingredients:
1 loaf french bread |
8 tablespoons tomato sauce |
1 1/2 cups low-fat cheddar cheese, grated |
1 1/2 cups pre-shredded mozzarella cheese |
1/2 cup light cream cheese |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400f (or use microwave if you want it chewy instead of crunchy). 2. Cut French bread in half width wise so you have two big flat halves, if needed cut in half again to fit your baking sheet or appetite. 3. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on bread. 4. Top with tomato sauce, use about 2 Tbs per quarter of bread. 5. Mix cheeses and spread over tomato sauce. 6. Bake for 15 min or microwave until cheese bubbles. 7. Can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for a quick midnight snack or part of lunch. Add more toppings and this would make a good quick dinner. |
