Easy Kataifi - Sweet Shredded Dough Pastry

Kataifi is a popular Middle Eastern pastry made with a special form of shredded phyllo dough which is also called kataifi. Most forms of kataifi are sweets, typically with nuts and honey or sugar syrups which make them flavorful, crunchy, and very sweet. Read more . !! Dough may be bought at Middle-Eastern grocers and sometimes at gourmet grocers, dough is usually frozen and thawed and handled like phyllo dough
Ingredients:
1 box of kataifi- ( similar to phyllo dough that has been shredded to resemble soimething like angel hair pasta )
butter about , 2 to 3 sticks melted or as needed
chopped nuts ( almonds, walnuts, pistachios ) as desired
syrup
2 cups sugar
fresh lemon
4 cups water water
optinal: orange flower essence, pinch of cloves, cinnamon ginger etc.
Directions:
1. Melt butter and place in the bottom of a oblong baking dsih ( 9 x 13 ) that has sides
2. Place the shredded dough evenly over the butter and mix with hands to have the dough evenly coated in the butter
3. Add the nuts and sprinkle into the dough
4. Bake 350F about 30 minutes or golden
5. Remove to rack to cool
6. Boil the sugar in the water until sugar is dissolved
7. Add the juice and rind of a lemon
8. Simmer about 1/2 hour at a gentle bubble or until its gets reduced and syrupy
9. Pour sauce over the warm kaitafi and let soak in about 5 to 6 hours before serving
10. Cut into pieces
11. Serve with strong coffee
