Focacia is similar to pizza except that it basically has no sauce or pizza cheese. There are savory as well as sweet varieties of focaccia depending on the regions of Italy UIsng storebought pizza dough, it's a snap to make a great appetizer! Read more ! Ingredients:
1 recipe (1 lb) favorite pizza dough, home made or bought |
olive oil ( extra virgin ) |
coarse salt |
sun dried tomatoes |
fresh tomatoes sliced ( roma, a meaty variety ) ) |
crumbled feta cheese |
variiations |
seedless sweet grapes, halved |
fresh rosemary |
etc. |
Directions:
1. Divide dough into two parts. 2. Shape each into a rectangle. 3. You can place the dough free style on the baking sheet or in 2 oven stone rectangle dishes. 4. With fingers make depression in dough. 5. Do not let dough rise. 6. Sprinkle with olive oil, coarse salt, top with dried and fresh tomatoes and sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese. 7. Bake 425 until dough is golden. ( 15 about to 20 mins ) 8. Cut into squares to serve. 9. Drizzle with more olive oil if desired. 10. Note: Typical foccacia usually has a topping of olive oil, rosemary, coarse salt etc. without sauce or cheese. 11. Olives are sometimes added too 12. However, you can top the dough with other ingredients as you desire 13. A sweet variation is seedless grapes, fresh rosemary and olive oil for a hint of sweetness which is awesome! |
