Great when craving something deep fried..I've made this with several variations of filling which I've listed but I imagine the list is endless....Use your imagination to suit your taste Ingredients:
turkey variation |
1 lb. ground turkey |
1 onion, diced |
1 can tomato sauce(8 oz.) |
4 tsp. cajun seasoning |
1/2 cup monterey jack, grated |
beef variation |
1 lb. ground beef |
1 onion, diced |
1 pkg. taco seasoning plus water according to pkg. directions |
1/4 cup salsa |
1/2 cup monterey jack cheese, grated |
3 pkg. of refrigerated biscuits (7.5 oz., 10 biscuits) |
1 egg, beaten |
oil for frying |
Directions:
1. Saute meat until cooked through, breaking up with a fork 2. Remove meat from pan 3. Add onions to fat and cook until tender 4. Return meat to pan 5. Add seasoning, and sauce or taco seasoning and simmer until liquid is gone 6. Cool completely 7. Add cheese to meat mixture 8. On floured surface, roll out 1 biscuit to 4 inch diameter round 9. Put 1 tbls. of meat mixture on round 10. Brush half of round with egg 11. Fold over filling to create half circle 12. Seal edges by pressing with tines of fork 13. Put on baking sheet and cover with damp towel 14. Repeat with remaining biscuits 15. Put oil in pan 1/2 inch deep 16. Heat to 350 (If no thermometer, stick the end of a wooden spoon into oil and when it bubbles around the whole spoon, it's hot enough) 17. Fry in batches until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side 18. Drain on paper towel |
