This is one of the first items I made when I learned to cook so many years ago.Throw away those boxed cornmeal mixes! This is easy and delicious! I like sweet cornbread, so I add 1/2 c sugar,if you don't use 1/4 c sugar. Read more .you can use sweet milk or buttermilk,doesn't matter. Ingredients:
1/2 c oil |
1 c flour |
1 c yellow cornmeal |
1 t.baking powder |
1 t.salt |
1/4-1/2 c sugar |
1 c milk |
2 eggs |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 deg.Add oil in a cast iron skillet.Place in hot oven. 2. In a bowl add dry ingredients,Measure milk,add eggs and beat well.Pour liquid mixture into dry ingredienta and mix well.Add hot oil to mixture and beat in.Pour mixture into hot skillet bake 15-20 mins . |
