These incredibly simple apple dumplings are scrumptious and a hit for breakfast, snack or dessert! My sister shared this recipe with us when she came for Christmas and we've made it for our Sunday School class and for our kids when they came to visit. They're a real treat, though there's nothing diet about them. Ingredients:
2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough |
4 granny smith apples, peeled, cored & quartered |
1 cup butter, melted |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
12 ounces mountain dew soda, divided equally |
Directions:
1. Spray two 9 x 13 baking dishes with non-stick spray. Preheat oven to 375-degrees. 2. Roll one apple quarter in one dough triangle, pressing edges to seal, and place edge side down in pan. Place with spacing for three across the 9 (short side) of the pan. 3. Mix the melted butter, sugar and cinnamon throughly and spoon over each of the dumplings, dividing evenly between the two pans. 4. Pour the Mountain Dew over the dumplings. 5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, rotating pans after about half the time has passed, so that both are golden brown. 6. Enjoy warm or cold with a little of the sauce spooned over them. Microwaves easily. For dessert, I add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. |
