A simple little cake that keeps well. Serve with berries and cream if you want a fancier dessert. I like it best on its own with a cup of hot tea. Ingredients:
1/2 lb real butter (1 c.) |
1 2/3 cups sugar |
5 large eggs |
2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1/2 teaspoon mace |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. 2. Butter and flour 1 loaf pan. 3. Cream butter and slowly add sugar. 4. Beat until light and fluffy. 5. Add egg one at a time and beat well each time. 6. Stir in flour and rest of dry ingredients. 7. Pour into pan. 8. Bake 1 1/2 hours. 9. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before turning out unto a baking rack. 10. Serve in very thin slices. |
