Dutch Apple Cake With Hot Lemon Sauce |

Dutch Style apple cake with a sweet yet tart lemon sauce. A nice change of pace treat. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1/2 cup butter, chilled |
2/3 cup milk |
1 egg, well beaten |
4 sour apples |
sugar |
cinnamon |
1 cup sugar |
2 tablespoons cornstarch |
2 cups boiling water |
1 lemon, juice and zest of |
2 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 2. Mix and sift dry ingredients. 3. Cut in butter. 4. Add milk and egg, and mix quickly. 5. Spread dough in a shallow greased 8x8-inch pan. 6. Pare, core, and slice apples; press into dough. 7. Bake 30 minutes. 8. Serve with hot lemon sauce:. 9. In a saucepan, mix sugar and cornstarch. 10. Add boiling water, stirring constantly. 11. Cook 8 to 10 minutes. 12. Add zest, lemon juice, and butter. 13. Serve over Apple Cake. |
