This is a deep, dark chocolate cookie that tastes like a brownie. If you love chocolate, you'll love these. I used to make them often years ago when my kids were little; had an out-of-the-blue request for them, and nearly couldn't find the recipe, so I'm posting it here for safe-keeping. I do remember that I make them with pecans as my family prefers those over walnuts. There might have been other tweaks that I won't remember till I get them made again. Don't remember where I found the recipe, either....
Ingredients:
6 ounces squares semisweet baking chocolate (or bittersweet)
4 ounces squares unsweetened baking chocolate
6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups chopped toasted walnuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 325.
2. Put chocolate squares and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, until chocolate is almost melted, stirring half way through heating time.
3. Stir until chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
4. Stir sugar into chocolate until blended.
5. Mix in eggs and vanilla.
6. In small bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.
7. Stir flour mixture into chocolate mixture.
8. Stir in nuts.
9. Drop by rounded tablespoons, 1 1/2 inches apart, on ungreased cookie sheets.
10. Bake 12 minutes or until set. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
11. Cool 5 minutes; remove from baking sheet to wire racks.
12. Cool completely.
13. Store airtight.
