The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February, 1867 Sounds like a christmas fruitcake, sort of. Ingredients:
1 lb flour |
1 lb. currants |
3/4 lb sugar |
1/2 lb butter |
zest from 1/2 lemon |
1/2 lb citron (yummmmmm) |
8 eggs |
brandy to your taste |
Directions:
1. One pound of flour, one pound of currants, three-quarters of a pound of sugar, half a pound of butter, half the peel of a lemon, half a pound of citron, whisk all together, with eight eggs; add a little brandy; bake in a slow oven, two hours and a half. |
