Very old recipe, Tilden Ne; you could use shortening instead of lard. Ingredients:
1 tablespoon lard |
1/2 cup buttermilk |
1 egg |
1 1/2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
6 tablespoons sugar |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
Directions:
1. Melt lard; add to buttermilk. 2. Add egg. 3. Sift flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder together. 4. Beat wet ingredients into dry ingredients. 5. Drop into hot oil by teaspoonfuls. I am guessing; recipe doesn't say. |
