                    Ingredients: 
                    
                        
                                                4 cups all-purpose flour  |  
                                                2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons baking powder  |  
                                                1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon sugar  |  
                                                2 teaspoons salt  |  
                                                2/3 cup shortening  |  
                                                1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups buttermilk  |

                                1. Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle buttermilk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times. 2. Pat dough out to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet.
