This is a recipe I obtained from the Carmichael Estate in Fate, Texas when I purchased the family collection in 1988. Enjoy Ingredients:
3/4 cup flour |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
1/3 cup vegetable shortening |
2 tablespoons water |
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 eggs |
1-1/2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts |
4 tablespoons bourbon |
white frosting layer |
1/2 cup butter |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 cups confectioners’ sugar |
chocolate glaze layer |
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips |
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening |
Directions:
1. For brownies sift dry ingredients together and set aside. 2. Combine sugar, shortening and water in pan. 3. Heat stirring constantly until sugar melts and mixture boils then remove from heat. 4. Stir in chocolate chips and vanilla until smooth then beat in eggs one at a time. 5. Stir in dry mixture and nuts then spread evenly into square baking pan. 6. Bake at 325 for 30 minutes then remove from oven and sprinkle bourbon on top while still hot. 7. Cool completely. 8. For white frosting layer beat butter and vanilla until creamy. 9. Add sugar gradually until smooth then spread evenly on top of brownie layer and chill until firm. 10. For chocolate glaze layer melt chocolate and shortening in double boiler then spread on top. 11. Cut in squares then chill until served. |
