Double Chocolate Brownies

This is a family recipe. My mom always made these and I think my grandma did, too.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for the top, if you want)
1 cup pecans (plus more for the top if you want) (optional) or 1 cup walnuts (plus more for the top if you want) (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Cream butter, sugar and egg.
3. Add sour cream and vanilla; beat well.
4. Combine dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture.
5. Stir in chips and nuts.
6. Spread in a greased 9 inch square baking pan.
7. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
8. Top with extra chips and nuts before baking or right after.
