A little something to go with soup or as an in between meal snack. I want to try these with another combination of cheeses. Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour |
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
1 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese (4 ounces) |
1/4 cup butter |
3 -5 tablespoons cold water |
1 beaten egg |
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese |
Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl combine flour, red pepper, and salt. 2. Using a pastry blender, cut in cheddar cheese and butter until pieces are the size of small peas. 3. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the water over part of the mixture. 4. Gently toss with a fork and push to side of bowl. 5. Repeat until all of the flour mixture is moistened. 6. Shape dough into a ball. 7. On a lightly floured surface flatten dough with your hands. 8. Roll out dough from center to edges forming a 10-inch square. 9. Brush with egg; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. 10. Cut dough into 5x1/2-inch strips. Place the strips 1/2 inch apart on a lightly greased baking sheet. 11. Bake in a 400 degree F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. |
