From my copycat e-cookbook, I wanted to share this one because I remember learning about this elusive liquer in bartending school. I've had to cut sugar and alcohol as a result of my training lately, but I'll let the adventurous types have fun with this if you happen to want it for a party or have an acquired taste for it. :) The massive cook time is the fermentation time of about 10 days - 2 weeks. Ingredients:
2 cups sugar |
1 cup water |
1/4 teaspoon anise extract |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
3 drops yellow food coloring |
1 fifth vodka |
Directions:
1. Make a sugar syrup by combining the sugar and water in a heavy saucepan and bringing to a boil for about a minute, then immediately reduce the heat. 2. Simmer for 1 hour or until thickened. Remove from heat and cool. 3. Pour the sugar syrup into a sterilized quart size bottle. Add the anise extract, vanilla, and food coloring. 4. Stir gently and add the vodka. 5. Cover and let the mixture sit for 10-14 days before serving. |
