this is a Dinette Cake from the 1969 Betty Crocker Cook Book. I like to substitute the all purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (1 1/4 cups is the amount i use for the whole wheat flour)
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening (i have sub'ed apple sauce here)
3/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. heat oven to 350 degrees. grease and flour 8x8 or 9x9 pan. Mix all ingredients and pour into pan. bake 35-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
