This recipe was taken from a cook book called Croton Centenial Cook Book. This was a cook book that my great grandma owned
Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1/4 cup sour milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup boiling water
Directions:
1. Cream sugar, shortening; add egg and sour milk with soda dissolved in it; add flour and cocoa and salt, then add boiling water and the vanilla, mixture will be thick before adding the water last, makes a square cake or double the ingredients for a layer cake.
2. Bake at 350 degrees till soft to touch.
