Use the best Southern whiskey you can afford. Ingredients:
1/3 cup water |
2/3 cup sugar |
3 bunches fresh mint leaves |
1 (750 ml) bottle southern whiskey |
Directions:
1. Boil water and sugar together with two bunches of torn mint leaves in large pot until sugar dissolves completely. Cool. Strain sugar syrup to remove mint leaves. 2. Combine cooled sugar syrup and bottle of whiskey. Stuff remaining mint leaves into empty whiskey bottle and refill bottle with whiskey and syrup mixture. 3. Cap and put in freezer over night. It will freeze to a slushy consistency for serving. 4. Serve in chilled silver julep cups or other chilled glasses straight from frozen bottle and garnish each glass with mint sprig. |
