Submitted to by Connie C. who warns that grandma worked with pinches and bits so the measurements may not be exact. Ingredients:
5 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced (enough to fill casserole 3/4 way!) |
1 tablespoon lemon juice |
1 cup all-purpose flour |
1 cup either unbleached cane sugar or brown sugar |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
4 tablespoons butter, softened |
3/4 cup chopped hickory nuts or chopped pecans |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to350 degrees F. 2. Fill medium sized casserole dish 3/4 full of prepared apples. 3. Add the lemon juice and stir. 4. In separate bowl mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, butter and nuts until crumbly. 5. Sprinkle mixture over top of apples in casserole. 6. DO NOT STIR. 7. Bake for 45 minutes. 8. Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F. 9. Allow pie to brown quickly. 10. It can be served hot or cold. 11. If you like, you may pour cream over the top. |
