A favorite recipe for parties! Great with ham! Ingredients:
9 medium potatoes |
salt |
1/3 cup butter or margarine |
1/3 cup flour |
2 1/4 cups half and half or milk |
1 (4oz) pkg shredded cheddar cheese |
(1 cup) |
3 tbs. dried bread crumbs |
Directions:
1. Early in Day (or day before) 2. In large covered saucepan over medium heat, in 1 inch boiling water, cook unpeeled potatoes and 1 tsp salt for 20-30 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender. Drain and cool. 3. About 1 hour before serving: 4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 12x8 baking dish. Peel and dice potatoes. In large saucepan over med-high heat, melt butter or margarine. With wire whisk or slotted spoon, stir in flour until well blended and smooth. Gradually stir in half & half and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and bubbly. Stir in 2 tsp. salt. 5. Gently stir in potatoes. Pour mixture evenly into baking dish, sprinkle with cheese, then bread crumbs. 6. Bake 25 minutes (or one hour if prepared the day before) or until mixture is bubbly and cheese is melted. |
