This recipe comes from a church cookbook. It is my sister's absolute favorite bread and she always requests that i make this bread. Try substituting honey for the brown sugar or using a bit of 5-grain mix instead of the white flour for a healthy twist. Ingredients:
1 cup quick oats |
1/2 cup whole wheat flour |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1 tablespoon salt |
2 tablespoons margarine |
2 cups boiling water |
1 1/2 tablespoons dry yeast |
5 cups white flour |
Directions:
1. Combine in a large bowl oats, flour, sugar, salt and margarine. 2. Pour over 2 cups boiling water. 3. Stir in to combine. 4. Dissolve 1 package dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. 5. When batter is cooled to lukewarm, add yeast. 6. Stir in 5 cups white flour. 7. When dough is stiff enough to handle, turn onto floured board and knead 5-10 minutes. 8. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise. 9. Shape into 2 loves and place in greased pans. 10. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. 11. Brush loaves with margarine. |
