Deep Fried Cheese and Broccoli Buttermilk Bites |

Taste of the South Ingredients:
2 quarts water |
3/4 teaspoon salt, divided |
3 cups fresh broccoli florets |
3/4 cup all-purpose flour, -divided |
4 tsb finely chopped american cheese |
3/4 teaspoon onion powder |
1 cup whole buttermilk |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
canola oil (for frying) |
Directions:
1. Mix together in a lg. pan the water and 1/2 tsp salt. 2. Bring to a boil over med. high heat. 3. Add broccoli - return to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. 4. Drani and rinse broccoli in cold water. 5. Mix 1/4 C flour - 2 tbs cheese and onion powder in a plastic bag, Seal and shake to mix. 6. Mix buttermilk,baking powder,1/2 C flour, 2 tbs cheese and 1/4 tsp salt. 7. Stir until smooth. 8. Heat 2 to 3 inches oil to 375. 9. Dip a few pieces of broccoli in batter. 10. Fry until golden brown. |
