This recipe is from a friend. She usually makes this for special mornings, such as holidays. It is quite decadent - don't count the calories on this one! Ingredients:
1/2 pounds croissants (usually 3) |
1/2 cup of butter or margarine at room temp |
6 oz of cream cheese at room temp |
1-1/4 cups maple syrup |
10 large eggs |
3 cups half-n-half |
1 tsp ground cinnamon |
2 tbsp chopped pecans |
powdered sugar |
Directions:
1. Tear croissants into 1/2 inch chunks. Then whirl in a food processor until coarsely chopped. 2. Butter a shallow 3 quart baking dish (approx 9x13). 3. Put the croissant pieces into the baking dish. 4. In a food processor, combine cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter & 1/4 cup maple syrup. Whirl until blended. Drop big spoonfuls into the baking dish on top of the croissant pieces. 5. In a bowl, beat eggs to blend with 1/2 cup maple syrup and the half-n-half. Pour into the baking dish. 6. Sprinkle with cinnamon. 7. Cover & chill at last 8 hours or up to 1 day. 8. Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven until richly browned & center barely jiggles (about 1 hour & 10 minutes). 9. About 5 minutes for souffle is done, warm the remaining syrup. 10. When the souffle is done, sprinkle with pecans, dust with powdered sugger & garnish with berries (if desired). Add hot syrup to taste. |
