My ex-husband was African-American and as a result of my marriage, I tasted and fell in love with soul food. I experimented for years until I came up with this recipe, it has a lot more flavor than other recipes I have tried. Ingredients:
2 (10.75 ounce) cans beef stock |
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chiles |
1 cup chopped onion |
1 cup diced fully cooked ham |
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar |
1 teaspoon white sugar |
1 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon seasoned salt |
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes |
1 bay leaf |
2 bunches collard greens, thinly sliced |
2 bunches mustard greens, thinly sliced |
2 bunches turnip greens, thinly sliced |
Directions:
1. Place beef stock, diced tomatoes with green chiles, onion, ham, vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, seasoned salt, red pepper flakes, and bay leaf in a slow cooker. Add collard greens, mustard greens, and turnip greens in order listed to slow cooker. 2. Cook on Low until greens are very tender, 4 to 6 hours. |
