this is a recipe that has been handed down thru the family.. These are different from the popcorn balls I normally see recipes for.. and they are soooo good.. and make a nice Christmas treat and gift. Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
1/3 cup light karo syrup |
1/3 cup butter |
1/3 cup water |
1 teasp. salt |
2 teasp. vanilla |
popped popcorn (air popped if possible) |
Directions:
1. in a heavy pan put sugar, karo syrup, butter, water, salt 2. over med heat stir until sugar dissolves 3. boil to soft ball stage- 228' -230' F 4. remove from heat add vanilla 5. pour over unsalted, unbuttered popcorn***** 6. pour little at a time 7. let cool enough to handle 8. then with buttered hands shape into balls 9. **** I found that the bottom of a 21 lb turkey roasting pan was the approx. amount of popped popcorn needed for 1 batch 10. to make it easier I would also spread it out on a commercial cookie sheet 11. to fix nice for gifts: 12. I would get the colored plastic wraps ( blue, red, yellow, and green) 13. from the store and tear off approx square pieces and put the popcorn ball in the middle.. bringing the sides up to the top of the ball and tying with a couple of pieces of curling ribbon.. |
