An old family favorite. It is soooo easy, even a beginner can create the perfect treat! Ingredients:
1 cup dates, chopped - can be fresh or dried (i use dried, i always have some on hand) |
1 tblsp powdered ginger (optional) |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1 tblsp butter |
1 tsp baking soda |
pinch of salt |
pinch of ground cinnamon |
1 cup boiling water |
1 1/2 cups sr flour |
whipped cream to top |
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, add 1 cup boiling water, stir well. 2. Fold in 1 1/2 cups SR flour. Mix well. 3. Bake 25-30 minutes in moderate oven either in well-greased roll tins or bundt pan. 4. Serve warm, sliced and topped with butter or cream. 5. You can make enough to freeze one to have on hand for unexpected guests! |
