I made this up from stuff I happened to have on my shelf and company was coming! It turned out very well, and I plan to do it again and again. Ingredients:
24 dates |
garlic-flavored hummus (buy it or make it) |
parmesan cheese, a small block |
balsamic vinegar, the best you can afford |
fresh basil leaves |
Directions:
1. Cut one side of each date, and stuff the dates with the Hummus. Be as generous as you dare. 2. Shave small shards of the Parmesan and stick them into the Hummus, so that they stand out from the date. 3. Sprinkle a wee bit of Balsamic over all the stuffed dates. Be stingy. 4. Mince the fresh basil and sprinkle it over the stuffed dates. 5. Serve on a pretty plate, lined with a paper doily. 6. Each mouthful (2 per serving) gives sweetness (dates), tartness (garlic), softness (hummus), firmness (cheese), freshness (basil), and the wisdom of age (balsamic). |
