Ingredients:
2/3 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1/4 cup warm water |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves |
2 (8-ounce) packages chopped dates |
1 cup chopped pecans |
Directions:
1. Cream shortening in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Dissolve soda in water; stir into creamed mixture. 2. Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon, and cloves in a medium mixing bowl; add dates and pecans, stirring to coat well. Add to creamed mixture, stirring until thoroughly blended. 3. Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 12 to 14 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and cool on wire racks. |
