I have not tried this recipe. I got this recipe from Holidays Of The World Cookbook For Students. This recipe is from Morocco. I plan to use Splenda for the sugar. I also don't plan to use the confectioners' sugar. Ingredients:
2 eggs, well beaten |
1 cup sugar |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1/2 cup melted butter or 1/2 cup margarine |
3/4 cup all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
1 cup pitted dates, chopped (cut with wet scissors) |
1 cup finely chopped walnuts or 1 cup almonds |
1/3 cup seedless raisin |
confectioners' sugar, for garnish |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. In large mixing bowl, mix eggs, sugar, vanilla, and melted butter or margarine with egg beater or electric mixer until well blended, about 3 minutes. Mixing constantly, add flour, a little at a time, and baking powder. 3. Using rubber spatula, fold in dates, nuts, and raisins, and mix well. Pour mixture into greased 9-inch square cake pan. 4. Bake in oven for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. While still warm, cut into bars about an inch wide and 3 inches long. 5. Put 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar into a small dish. Roll each bar in confectioners' sugar. 6. Store bars in box, with wax paper between layers. Serve as a sweet snack. |
