This is lovely toasted and buttered. Ingredients:
8 ounces flour |
3 teaspoons baking powder |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda |
2 ounces soft brown sugar |
3 ounces chopped dates |
2 ounces black treacle |
1 1/2 ounces chopped walnuts |
1 ounce butter |
1/4 pint milk |
Directions:
1. Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Preheat the oven to 350F/ gas 4. 2. Sieve the flour, salt, baking powder and soda into a bowel. Add the dates and nuts. 3. Heat the sugar, treacle, butter and milk gently until the sugar dissolves, stirring carefully. 4. Stir with a metal spoon into the dry ingredients, mixing well. Do not beat. 5. Pour the batter into the prepared tin. 6. Bake for 1 hour. |
